Frank Shepherd

Grandad Shepherd and his drinking buddies Frank, the son of Thomas and Jane, was born in 1880 and was a red head. I don't know a great deal about him except that he worked as a stoker for Bob Schofield's. Two of his brothers Hugh and Sam worked at the same company but held different jobs. Between them, they clocked up over one hundred years service. Frank and his family lived in one of the company cottages either in Vine Place or Milkstone road.

Frank loved a drink and went straight to the pub after work. He stayed there until closing time. My Dad reckoned the only time he ever used to see him was at lunch time when he left school early so that he could deliver his Father's lunch to him at the mill. Although they didn't see much of him at home, he always made sure that he made a fire for them early in the morning before they got up. Frank was apparently a bit of a character and one talent that he had was that he could juggle.

Frank used to run a local club - possibly a Working Mans' Club. This picture shows a club member's outing. On one occasion, Frank actually fell off the top deck of a similar bus but was able to walk away relatively unhurt. He is the on the far left of the front row.

Frank married a girl called Mary Bailey the daughter of an earthenware dealer.Their offspring were Jack, Tom, twins - Dolly and Mary, Granville, Frank, my father Arnold Shepherd and Vera.

Information from the internet leads me to believe that Frank was born in Northowram, Halifax, Yorkshire. Index Of My Direct Ancestors or Send Me An Email at intershep@netspace.net.au
